ANSI Approves ANSI/LEO-8000 – Standard for Sustainable Electronic Gaming Machines as an American National Standard PDF Print E-mail
Press Release

Madison, WI – September 15, 2011 – The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has approved LEO-8000 – Standard for Sustainable Electronic Gaming Machines as an American National Standard (ANS). This is the first ANS developed by Leonardo Academy, an ANSI-accredited standards developer.

The goal of this voluntary standard has been to help the gaming industry identify and communicate the sustainability parameters of their products and services and to allow industry purchasers to identify their sustainability preferences when purchasing gaming equipment and services. The standard development committee has written comprehensive frameworks and sustainability metrics that assess environmental, social, and economic performance at all levels of the gaming industry’s supply and delivery chain and encourages continuous improvement in overall sustainability performance. Key components of the standard include energy use and emission reductions, as well as the procurement and use of more sustainable materials throughout the supply chain.

The standard development committee is comprised of individuals and organizations representing the entire supply and delivery chain for gaming products and services, including manufacturers and suppliers of goods and services to gaming companies and organizations and their operations and end-users.

Michael Arny, President of Leonardo Academy, congratulated the process participants, “We are beyond proud of the work that has been achieved on this standard and appreciate the committee volunteering their time, expertise and support. Leonardo Academy looks forward to seeing the success of your efforts having a positive impact on the gaming industry.”

In promoting this voluntary standard, Leonardo Academy is opening applications to manufacturers of gaming equipment and casino operators to pilot test the standard. Interested parties would utilize at least a part of the standard in their procurement procedures or manufacturing processes, and are encouraged to apply.
