Light Bulb Purchasers

This calculator helps you develop a high efficiency light bulb purchasing plan that minimizes the amount of mercury brought into a building through high efficiency light bulbs. The lower the weighted average picograms of mercury per lumen hour of light output for the light bulbs in the building, the less mercury is being brought into the building.

For buildings seeking certification under the USGBC’s LEED® for Existing Building rating system (both LEED-EB v2 and LEED-EB O&M) points can be earned by:      

1. Documenting a low weighted average picogram mercury per lumen hour purchasing plan for the building for all the high efficiency light bulbs in the building, and
2. Documenting that this purchasing plan is followed.

This calculator helps you calculate the weighted average picograms of mercury per lumen hour (pg/lu-hr) for all the light bulbs in a building.
